It is said that the best thing to spend money on is travel and that is true, most trips do not make you feel like spending money on a great investment. In the United States, we can find some of the world-renowned places that make the visitor question why they have bothered. The locals, who know the reality that is under the shiny brochures, tend to have a much different opinion.
These places have also in common that they are no longer authentic; they have turned into places where mass tourism replaces the authentic. Mobs, overcharging, and subpar experiences are the order of the day and the tourists go away with more disappointment than pleasant memories.

1. Times Square, New York City
The picture of Times Square as the center of New York has a much darker side of the story that is the world. The locals hardly ever come to this place unless their visitors are from out of town, as they are aware that it is a crush of humanity 200,000 to 250,000 pedestrians everyday in 2024 crowded together by giant billboards and fast food restaurants. The billing of Branson as family entertainment central is hard to argue with however, much of its shows and attractions seem to be in a time capsule.
